How to remove EXIF data
- Drop JPG, PNG or WebP photos into the box. You’ll see the hidden data in each one, with the most sensitive items in red.
- Press Remove metadata.
- Download the clean photos. They look exactly the same and are a little smaller.
What is EXIF, and why remove it?
EXIF is information that a phone or camera writes into a photo: the device model, the date and time, the settings, and often the exact GPS coordinates. When you send a photo as a file or post it on a site that doesn’t clean it, anyone can find out where you live or work.
No loss of quality
The tool doesn’t re-save the image. It cuts the metadata blocks out of the file and leaves the picture itself untouched. The colour profile and rotation are kept, so the photo looks just as before.
Frequently asked questions
Which data is removed?
EXIF (including GPS, camera model, serial number and dates), XMP, IPTC, comments, the embedded preview, and extra data stored after the image, such as the video of a Motion Photo.
Does removing EXIF reduce quality?
No. The image isn’t re-encoded, so the quality stays exactly the same.
Don’t social networks remove EXIF anyway?
Most large networks strip it from published photos, but messengers that send a photo “as a file”, email and file-sharing services usually keep it.
Why did my photo keep its rotation?
We keep one tiny field, the orientation, so the photo isn’t shown sideways. It contains no personal information.
