    How to compress an image

    1. Drop one or more photos into the box, or tap choose files. You can also paste an image with Ctrl+V.
    2. Choose Quality to set the level yourself, or Exact size and enter the limit you need in KB.
    3. If you like, choose the format and the longest side in pixels, then press Compress.
    4. Check the new size next to each photo and press Download.

When do you need an exact size?

Government portals, university applications and job sites often accept photos only up to 100, 200 or 500 KB. In Exact size mode the tool finds the best quality that fits your limit, and lowers the resolution only if it has to.

    Which format to choose

JPG is accepted everywhere and works best for photos. WebP files are about a third smaller and keep transparency, but some older websites don’t accept them. Automatic keeps photos as JPG and saves images with transparency as WebP.

Compression also removes hidden EXIF data, such as the place where the photo was taken.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a photo to 100 KB?
Choose Exact size, press the 100 KB button, then Compress. The result will be 100 KB or smaller.
    Will the photo lose quality?
A little, but at the default quality of 75% the difference is hard to see. Choose a higher value if you need maximum detail.
Can I compress several photos at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like, and they’ll all be compressed with the same settings.
    Are iPhone HEIC photos supported?
They open in Safari on iPhone and Mac. In other browsers, set your camera to “Most Compatible” or convert the photo to JPG first.
